PAUL JASON KLEIN THE ROAD TO GLORY
LANY, an acronym for "Los Angeles New York", is the indie-pop band from LA that Gen-Z just can't get enough of. The band recently released their third studio album in the midst of a hectic 2020. In a season of disarray, many are searching for direction and a solid foundation to stand on. To be able to get to where you are heading, often you need to reflect on the past. Paul Klein, the frontman of the alternative rock band, does just that. Klein opens up about his childhood growing up in a Christain community and his passion for music manifesting at a young age while participating in his church's worship band.
The California trio’s leading man’s story seems to come full circle as LANY released their new track “I still talk to Jesus” on their recent album. Klein speaks candidly about his process writing the new hit. "I typed 'I still talk to Jesus' in my notes before sitting down to write this song. I was raised in church but there are things I do now, that I used to think I would go to hell over...Sex drugs, rock and roll this is my confession.”
The lead singer, with his “Gods Got Me” tattoo draping across the back of his neck, speaks transparently about all the things he's done that may be considered "rule breaking” in his faith. Klein’s song lyrics encompass the notion of grace – undeserved grace - given to us as we "try to do better than yesterday". The singer songwriter gets vulnerable as he allows the audience into an intimate confession between himself and God.
“Stained glass windows are synonymous with cathedrals and religion. Talking about a stained past in the same breath felt like a humongous song writing achievement tome”, Klein says. “The message is that we're all broken. Go easy on yourself and give yourself a sense of grace.”
Everyday is full of sufficient grace so we don’t have to worry about our yesterday’s or tomorrow. Your healing, takes time. Your journey, takes time. The process, takes time. Everything takes time. Each season, each moment we live is not occurring in vain. Encouraging you to extend grace to yourself today and everyday.
“So now I live with the confidence that there is nothing in the universe with the power to separate us from God’s love. I’m convinced that his love will triumph over death, life’s troubles, fallen angels, or dark rulers in the heavens. There is nothing in our present or future circumstances that can weaken his love.” - Romans 8:38
