U.S. swimmer Simone Manuel just secured her spot in the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo. Manuel won the 50-meter freestyle during the Olympic swimming trial by 0.01 seconds, making her qualified to compete in Tokyo next month. This incredible win was not an easy journey as she was diagnosed with overtraining syndrome earlier this year. The stress of 2020 caught up to Manuel, burdening her and resulting to her burnout. Manuel was mentally, emotionally, and physically drained. This battle was a big fight so she took the most appropriate route, taking a three-week break in April. By taking the proper precautions and treatments to avoid future episodes, Manuel is making it a priority to take care of herself and plans to get plenty of rest so it does not impact or threaten her performance and health at the upcoming Olympics.
