Chanel's artistic director Virginie Viard stepped into this role in 2019 following the death of Karl Lagerfeld. Her history with Chanel dates back to 1987 when she worked in embroidery. The French designer loves luxury, quality craftsmanship, and the beauty of each design she creates. Viard was under the leadership and worked directly with Lagerfeld at both Chanel and Chloe. Although she works at the most famous fashion house, she does not strive for the fame as the fashion designer. Viard keeps to herself and acts more than she speaks. Chanel's path was paved by both Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld and Viard is following suit. She is dedicated to keeping their legacy alive and hopes she is making them happy with her work.
