Discovered in 2017 during Howard University's homecoming, model Anok Yai is highly favored by designers and companies, making her in demand and modeling in her own lane. Originally in school for biochemistry, education was important to her and her family. She then was discovered at an event, and now Yai models to express herself as her form of art. It's more than just standing in front of a camera for Yai and she is not to be pigeonholed.
Born Egypt as her family was seeking political asylum, came to America as a refugee. She is the second black model after Naomi Campbell and first South Sudanese woman to open a Prada runway show. Her presence in the fashion industry is bringing forth change and breaking barriers. She is the face of possibility for so many young women and those who are seeking change and freedom.
Embrace the new beginnings that are in front of you because your past does not dictate where you are heading!
"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom." - 2 Corinthians 3:17
